Increase in cancer rate for children
There has been an increase in cancer for children in Fiji in the past decade.

Health Ministry spokesperson Peni Namotu said this is mainly attributed to the change in life style and foods consumed by mothers.

Also one of the contributing factors is risk affecting cancer is alcohol, smoking, nutrition and diet.

Namotu said it is important for mothers not to smoke and drink alcohol during pregnancy as this directly contribute to the development of cancer in children.

A total of 103 children died over the past decade of childhood cancer at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital alone.
