Scrap metal ban lifted, conditions set

Scrap metal ban lifted, conditions set
The scrap metal ban is now lifted for those who run scrap metal businesses yet subject to strict conditions.

This is according to Commissioner Western Commander Joeli Cawaki.

One of the compliance of the conditions according to Cawaki is a documentation highlighting the types of scrap metal received and from which source.

Another term of the condition also prohibits dealers from buying scrap metal that are termed as part of our public infrastructure amongst them Telecom Fiji cables or Fiji Roads Authority galvanized culvert parts.

According to Cawaki, an inspection team has also been set up to check on scrap metal before it is loaded for export with regular checks also being done in the scrap metal yards.

Non compliance with these conditions said Cawaki will result in stiff action from authorities.
