12yr old first drowning fatality this year
The first drowning incident for this year has claimed the life of a 12-year-old student just six days into the New Year.

The incident occurred around 11am yesterday at Bokanikai village in Rabi when the student was swept away by strong currents while swimming at the Kamakau River.

The 12-year-old student’s father was informed of the tragic incident by another boy who jumped into the river to save his son.

His father managed to retrieve his body but could not revive him after several attempts.

A post mortem is expected to be conducted soon.

Two drowning cases were recorded for the same period last year.
