Serve everyone - Commander

Exactly 12 years ago today, a group of rebel soldiers attempted to carry out a mutiny at Queen Elizabeth Barracks which resulted in the death of three loyal soldiers.

Members of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and close relatives today held a dawn service to remember Lance Corporal Rawaileba, Private Rokosirinavosa and Private Veilewai who made the ultimate sacrifice.

In a solemn ceremony with “The Last Post” playing, members of the RFMF led by Army commander Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and the senior officers paid tribute to the three fallen soldiers.

Commodore Bainimarama then spoke to the troops saying that they should not forget the three soldiers who gave their lives while protecting Fiji.

The Commander called on the members of the military to ensure that they put all their efforts into uniting the country and not to listen to people who are trying to create differences.

Commodore Bainimarama said as work continues on the new constitution, people should not listen to politicians, chiefs and church elders who are leaning towards parties like the SDL to create differences and division.

He said the RFMF should always serve the people of Fiji irrespective of their race.

The Army Commander stressed that people should not forget what happened in 2000 and the reasons for bringing about the necessary reforms after the events of 2006.
